Advice/Help on Engine Rebuild of an '03 GSX750F Katana

I was considering leaving the bike off the road for next summer anyway because I plan to do this rebuild, and since the engine is out, and I've had most of the bike taken apart several times already before, I might just do a full restoration. The fairing will be off, the engine out... I might...

Advice/Help on Engine Rebuild of an '03 GSX750F Katana

I called around about getting the engine rebuilt professionally. Two places quoted me $10,000. My jaw hit the floor. I already spent a couple thousand on luggage for the bike. Luggage isn't an option, even through aftermarket for this bike. I bought full Givi Outback, and mounting brackets for...

Advice/Help on Engine Rebuild of an '03 GSX750F Katana

So, a piece of polished marble should work? It doesn't flex, and is machine ground and polished. And very strong. Do I understand this right? I would use an abrasive, like an adhesive sandpaper, with the flat surface to sand the machined surface perfectly flat?

The image doesn't show up, at least for me, on the website, so I attached a screen-shot. Is this the one you are referring to? https://www.princessauto.com/en/1000-lb-hydraulic-pneumatic-motorcycle-lift-table/product/PA0008667784

Advice/Help on Engine Rebuild of an '03 GSX750F Katana

Great info, Thanks! What do you mean by 'lap the sealing"? Do the GSXR 750 "oil boiler" engine parts also fit the GSXF 750? That would make parts-finding much easier. Maybe upgrading, too. I'll have to get a compression tester, I don't currently have one. I'm unfamiliar with the tensioner. Is...

Advice/Help on Engine Rebuild of an '03 GSX750F Katana

Thanks, Priller. This is some great insight, and I expect will be very useful. Reading this actually got me excited to star, but I still have a ways to go to prep. I hope to have that surgical atmosphere you mentioned. I have a storage shelf left to build in the shed, then some clearing out to...

FYI, it looks like I'm having a busy day at work today, so I apologist if I don't reply for a while after creating this post.

Advice/Help on Engine Rebuild of an '03 GSX750F Katana

Before I found this forum, I was in a Suzuki forum, and a Katana forum. The Katana forum had almost no traffic and recently shut down. The Suzuki forum is nearly the same. It's being kept alive by one admin that replies to all new member's posts, and no one else. The people that keep this forum...

I only have a torque ratchet for lug nuts. I'll buy one for this project. How do you calibrate them, or check them for accuracy? Budget: What ever it takes? lol Like I said, I'm bad at organization and planning. I have a line of credit for related costs that I will charge to, and pay-off, as I...

Advice/Help on Engine Rebuild of an '03 GSX750F Katana

I've been talking about rebuilding the engine on my Katana 750 for a couple of years now because I can hear what I'm sure is my timing chain rattling on take-off. After building a shed this summer, I'm finally freeing up space in the garage to give myself room to work, and I want to start on...

    What are you reading?

The best series I've ever "read" was Jack Reacher. I actually listened to that one, and what made it so good was the narrator, Dick Hill. His voice was perfect for Reacher, although a male voice is strange when reading female lines if you aren't used to it. He did such a great job that my wife...

    What are you reading?

As I said, I prefer fiction, but I could get behind a good historical story, so long as it's not a documentary. I've listened to over 100 Western audios, but I noticed The Bookworm has Westerns so I think it's time to read some.
