You were lucky if you had no problems with the linked brakes on your ST. SMC failures are common, and when it fails, the rear wheel can get locked up.

I actually have a similar problem with my KTM's Akrapovic baffles. They sound so much better removed, but on the highway they're ear-piercing. When I reinstall them, I tell myself it's nice to be stealth again, but I do miss that sound.

I never mail anything to the courts. Always hand deliver so they can't claim they never received it.

I don't think plate visibility is a safety item, but a HTA violation. Now if the plate mount was loose with the potential to fall off, then it would be a safety issue.
