'04 GS500F with stripped oil cover studs. What to do with it?

I saw someone do this in a video. Welder is still on my list of tools to acquire though. I thought of squaring it off a bit and using some JB weld or two part epoxy to something similar though.

'04 GS500F with stripped oil cover studs. What to do with it?

Hmm, that's tempting. Any contact info on them? Sounds worth it to at least get a quote. The studs might just be a case of replacing, assuming they don't prove too difficult to remove. Though the bottom bolt will likely require a helicoil. It had already been stripped and re tapped once.

'04 GS500F with stripped oil cover studs. What to do with it?

I did find this one that seems to go over it fairly thoroughly. The last time I worked on messed up bolts/studs in engines was high school auto class. I recall it being a royal pain.

'04 GS500F with stripped oil cover studs. What to do with it?

Title pretty much covers it. I still have my previous bike that was ride able until about 2014 when I managed to strip the oil filter cover studs. Torque wrenches are sadly useless when the manual just says not too tight. Been sitting in an attached garage since. I have 3 options in mind...

    Next upgrade for under 25,s

Make sure you really check around if looking at engine size above 500cc. I bought a CBR650F back in 2015, and lots of insurance priced it as high or higher than the CB600RR. Found Johnson insurance, and it was cheaper for full coverage than basic from the other places.

Near death crash.... should I ride again?

The CBR500 is a nice bike. Very smooth and nimble. Now go ride on gravel and dirt SLOWLY, so you get used to it. And don't take turns you haven't been through in the last 15 minutes at speeds you can't avoid potholes, gravel, roadkill, etc.

can you do 2nd gear clutch ups on a 600cc with stock sprockets

Have you happened to come across any good videos or explanations on how to properly use the clutch to limit wear? Only real difference I can think of is how quickly you let it out. Last video I saw, the guy was recommending to be accelerating, pull in, then let out the clutch. Faster...

    CBR650F review on Canada Motoguide

I picked up a 2014 last winter, and put on 6K KM last season. I also ran into insurance issues, but did find three places with reasonable quotes. Johnson, Dalton Timmins, and Duffy. Basic coverage is 580 a year for me. Handling seems just fine, and I'm far more comfortable in fast sweepers than...

    Stunt Driving.... Need Help!!!

I suspect this may have played a big part in the charge being dismissed. My last interaction with a police officer resulted in just a warning, for the same offense actually. The officer struck me as someone best being honest, and thankfully I was right.

My first ridng season, couple questions.

I'll second that the bike is likely fine given his dirt experience. Finding decently priced insurance would have been a lot easier on a 500, or even the 650 twins. Best insurance pricing I found on a CBR-650F, was with Johnson insurance. Should have an easier time though since that model has...

Options for dealing with high mileage bike?

Feel free to save some money for the next auction. Next up on the block is my 2004 GS500F. Only 58K Km. Memento scratches from all over southern Ontario roads. Heated Grip (And I mean grip, the one side doesn't work). Self protective oiling (Stripped bolt on the oil filter cover, leaks). Oh, and...

    Guys please help!!!!! Beginner!!!

I do wonder if there is much difference between no experience and an M1, compared to an M2. But the safety course I took tested you at the end for your M2. With a waiting time of 2 months to advance from M1 to M2, I never even bothered getting quotes with an M1. If you're going with a smaller...

Hit and run. Thankfully not on my bike.

Just got out from the collision reporting center. Talked with the guy there, but he felt if I wasn't planning to go through insurance, it was in my best interest not to report it, so I wouldn't have involvement in an accident on my record. Gotta love our insurance system.

Hit and run. Thankfully not on my bike.

I decided I'd be happier getting delicious waffles with strawberries for lunch, rather than drive back to Hamilton to try and get the guy in trouble. I'll see if I can still report it tomorrow morning first thing when I go into work. Despite what my insurance said, I'm still a bit hesitant to...

Hit and run. Thankfully not on my bike.

It is easier to make out the plate in the video. I'm trying to decide if its worth my time and effort. Effort being leaving work 2 hours early, driving for an hour, and whatever time it takes to file the report.
