Royal Enfield

The 650 is quite modern , when compared to the 500. And much nicer to ride and the build quality is days better. But it is what it is, retro styled, Indian made, priced accordingly.

the 650 engine, as Trials pointed out, is where the reliability has been improved
OHC, 4 valves/cyl, gear primary drive, Euro Tier 4 emiss.

spec wise it's spot on same weight and HP as a Honda CB500X
has ABS, single front disc on a bike that heavy is maybe not great

I'd call it an Indian Bonneville - I like

I like the retro look, be driving through Acton tomorrow hopefully i can get a chance to drop by the dealer and have a look at what they have

50-50 whether they have one there. They had to swing a deal with another dealer to get my neighbour’s bike in. Took a week.

Now they just need to supply parts including complete crate engines in ridiculous numbers at great prices and they stand a chance of being like a next Honda CB350

saturate the market with your product, everybody will want one :|
crate engines; everybody will want to race one or use it in mysterious ways.
needs to be so cheap the buyer thinks omg I need one at that price just to beat on.

... it's made in India not Germany

They used some misdirection in a few things as well. The Brembos are Indian, and the Pirelli Phantoms on them are made in Brazil, not the German ones.

If the price is right they can get away with the marginal components that need upgrade
& their frames that look like somebody learning to weld recycled steel.

Not the GT, but I have ridden the older models - RE 350 CI and the RE 500 (not the classic, the older cast iron 500). They have reliability issues big time. I remember being stranded with a leaking head gasket on a 350, dead into the night.

Otherwise, in India, people buy them for the RE "legacy" and the "thump" rather than for any sort of performance.

Not sure about the latest models though. It's been more than 11 years since my last ride on a 350 bullet.

My experience as well. Was fixing the RE500 on the side of the road every single day on our India trip.

BTW, just read your Ladakh ride report on BCM. We were there three months after you did your ride, during that huge monsoon.

i'll wait till i can test ride the 650 and see how it feels, big part of what sells me is the retro look, and the sound of a twin

Yes, luck was on my side I guess, during that ride!

I also remember starting reading your log on BCM, way back in 2012 if I am not wrong! And in our dhaba meets, we used to bring up your ride many a times in our conversations. Small world...

I'm trying to picture what it would look like with a side car mounted to it. If i can find a pic i'll post it

wondering what this bike would be like? Any thoughts

You don't have to read much past 450 pounds :/ why did they put a steel roll cage and steel bash plate on it, is that to protect the cheap bike inside?

:geek:Aluminum <- amazing stuff, you can practically build an entire motorcycle out of it and when you are done the resultant motorcycle won't be heavy enough to crush you to death.
... "300-watt alternator" <- um, I wouldn't be advertising that too much, no wonder the test riders had fuel delivery issues.

CSC 450 reads like a sure train wreck.
