been a bit Evo, how about a review?
are you loving the premium Euro engineering?
Sure.
Fit an finish is superb. It does feel expensive.
Handles like a dream, shes about 500lbs without bags but i swear it's easier to throw around them my FZ09 was (420lbs IIRC). I find the throttle/fueling just above idle somewhat off, not snatchy like the FZ09, but just..vague? Doesn't seem like the throttle input matches the output consistently, again this is at just off idle. I'm contemplating a Brentune (flash) which should net me a modest power gain (who needs it LOL), smooths out the throttle input and will get the engine fan on sooner. Quickshifter (up and down) is like butter. Throttle blip downshifts with just a foot tap are an easy way to put a smile on your face that's for sure.
It makes power well, i linked an article above with a dyno chart, the torque curve is pretty much flat all the way to 9k and around 4k you get 80% of max torque. It's not an off the line monster like the FZ09 was but wind it out enough and yeah, hold on. I very much enjoy the stock exhaust, both looks and sound. Below 6k there's a valve that stays closed, so you're not making much of a racket at all (looking forward to this at cruising speeds). Then you crack 6k and it howls like an RR. Looks like i should see about 350kms a tank if i'm not hooning it.
The tech is ridiculous, does pretty much everything but cook you dinner. After my service i'll unlock the Dynamic Pro mode so i'll get to tweak things like wheelie control/TC/engine breaking, etc (and gain another 3k rpm to max out at 12k). I'm no street Rossi so the nannies will largely stay on, but i think i'll turn down the engine braking some. LED Headlights are way, way better then the FZ09s. Cornering adaptive lights aren't really wowing me, but the LED Aux (fog) ones are legit, very impressed. Electronic suspension is bananas; can manually set firmer or softer rebound/compression and preload at the flick of a switch or let it auto detect the weight/conditions and do it's thing.
Super, super comfortable. Doing a 500km ride tomorrow so we shall put it to the test, but at this point i don't expect to be springing for any extras to pull off long treks. Except for a touring screen, need one..badly. At 5"10 the stock screen is blowing the air right at the top of my lid, even on highest setting, so super noisy helmet even with plugs. OEM Touring screen was $360 with my dealership discount, so i'll try to hold off a bit and see what 3rd party options come out. For now i sprung for an HJC RPHA 70 ST lid, more proper for my riding position and one of the quietest on the market if the reviews are to be believed.
Rad/Oil cooler guards going in with 1st service, i expect i'll likely swap the front signals out for LED ones.
Keyless ignition and fuel tank access are nice. Bike will auto alarm after it's turned off and will actually turn itself off if the engine isn't running after a few minutes.
3 year warranty with 3 year road side assist anywhere in North America, bonus!
Nitpicks:
Stock screen as per above.
In traffic the right side of the engine lets off serious, serious heat. I'm glad i returned those riding shoes, even with thicker riding jeans i need the full length boot to put my mind at ease about burning my skin..yeah it was that rough on the ride home when i picked her up.
Based on how the fairings are setup i think decent engine crash guards are going to be tricky and expensive, oh well.
Screen is overall well done. The graphics are A++, but there's a little washing out with the sun behind you. Wish they had a white background available, i'd take it even with no sensor to detect light changes.
Brakes are no where near "i'd like to slow down please" and very much "ahoy, drop anchor" with the tap of a finger. I suppose this is not a bad thing but i'm still trying to get my head around using practically zero effort to reel this much bike in.
Overall i don't regret the choice. I would recommend the average buyer wait for a used one unless you have cash to burn. As nice as it is unless you`re good with a base model the packages you're forced to buy really start wiping out the value for money. If you`re in the market for a Premium Sport Tourer, put this at the top of your list.
