Yamaha is all set to join the 250cc motorcycle segment by launching the R25 in India next year, to compete with the likes of CBR 250R and the baby Ninja. The Japanese manufacturer recently unveiled the M1- based R25 at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The Yamaha R25 will be twin cylinder, making it a premium 250cc, compared to its Honda and Kawasaki rivals. The twin cylinder motor will be liquid-cooled and use an advance fuel injection system. The R25 borrows its styling from Yamaha’s M1 MotoGP machine, making it one of the best looking quarter-litre motorcycles.

The motorcycle uses a tubular chassis with telescopic front suspension and disc brakes at both the front and rear. ABS might be optional.

It is still not sure if Yamaha would sell the motorcycle with a twin cylinder engine or a single cylinder one. Considering Yamaha aggressive approach with R15, it would be safer to assume that the R25 will be a segment leading motorcycle, in terms of performance, competing with the likes of RC390, Ninja 300 and the Daytona 250.
The R25 is expected to belt out 28-30 horses and priced between 2.5- 3 lakh rupees. (~$5400 CAD)

Do you guys think it'll be coming to Canada?

that is one sexy bike...too bad it's a 250 (nothing wrong with 250's but I own a 600 so would be looking for bigger or similar not smaller)...

won't go on sale in canada in 2014

That's a sharp little 250, I hope it that it will be available in Canada, it would be a fun little bike to boot around in the city!

Performance seems to be one step behind Kawasaki 300 and KTM RC390. Yamaha waited this long to get into the entry level sport bikes and in my opinion designed a great looking bike but with the performance level of the last generation of models from Kawasaki (ninja 250r) or even Honda cbr250.

Is the riding position sporty or just me? The CBR250 and Ninja 250 are more of a standard position.

The riding position to me looks more aggresive than the Ninja 300 . But I think its more of an illusion due to the mpre sporty look of the fairings and paint scheme.

You're in luck, as Yamaha also makes a 600cc motorcycle with an even more advanced engine and frame

India and most of the other South Asian markets still have the Kawi and Honda 250 engines in the updated body styles so no, its not last gen. They've had the R15 (150cc) for a while which would slap the **** out of the CBR125 and it looked a whole let better, now upgraded to 250cc and it looks pretty badass.

It'll either be bored to 300cc for here or we won't see it all, and R3 sounds a lot cooler than R25...

This ^

The Ninja 300 was released as the Ninja 250 in South Asia. With the recent news of Yamaha trademarking the name "R3", it's likely they're doing the same thing.

M1 based R25 ... LOL

Very nice bike though, but it will be the most pricey 250 out there, like their 125 .... best looking most expensive ... not what you want in this low cc segment, because how quickly they change owners and who is buying them.

I would bet, they are going to throw in a single 250 engine from WR250X .... because they don't currently have twin modern engine .... this would be keep the cost down somewhat (WR250X is like 7500CAD if I am not mistaken).

Confirmed from Yamaha, no R25 this year in Canada. Also confirmed from KTM, no RC390 or Duke 390 until 2015.

Sorry guys, have to buy the ninja 300 for now as it is the only good looking bike of 250/300 class.

Have any links about this?

Sorry no link, is from an internal source. The only way to get rc390 or duke 390 is from US, they will be released this year. That's all I can say.
