Tipped over someone's GSXR-1000, need advice

Agreed as Mik above. The whole point of giving him the cash is so your insurance won't find out. Now that they know your premiums may go up whether or not they pay out because now you're more at risk. They may see you as a menace on the roads, and rape you accordingly. Or they may say 'meh' cause its a small amount after your deductible.

we pay insurance for a reason, use it. This guy could take your cash and then have his insurance do the repairs anyway. So your 2k is for pain and suffering. Depending how he was parked he might be at fault a bit as well. I've seen ********* riders park behind cars so close that there is zero chance of their bikes NOT getting hit as someone tries to move their car.

anyway good on you for sticking around and not actually running.

EDIT: also remember that is just an estimate...they could find other issues during the repair and state it's part of the accident then add on. They did that when I was repairing my bike after it got hit. It was my boss that hit it in the work parking lot so we went through cash. He wasn't happy but it ended up being a $900 repair on my old CBR125....started as 600

Just want to clarify based on my personal experience 10 years ago. CRC did report my collision to my insurance company, who then called me the next day and asked if I was going through insurance. I firmly said no, I will handle the repairs myself and they said ok, no problem. I never saw a raise in rates. However, in my case a transport decided to try to merge into my Chevette on the 401, so it wasn't my fault.

If your car got flipped onto it's side at 1 km/h, how much do you think it would cost to fix?

pay man, someone did this to me the second day I had my bike. I took it in to get a quote for him from a shop he selected, I had nothing to do with the shop so it wasn't Bias and it was like 1500$ to bring it back to what it was. You'd be suprised how many things get scratched up in a tip, and if its scratched it is no longer the way it was. It may sound stupid but now whoever he tries to sell the bike too will see it has been "dropped" and it kills his resale value.

The collision was very slow, I was backing out at like 1km/h, but the I touched the right side of the bike, lifted it over it's stand, and tipped it on the left side.

Here are pictures of the supposed damages:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt the first pic of the right side?
Or was this just to show that this has been reported to the CRC?

My 0.02, he's trying to fix up some of the damages that happened to the bike previously and using you to do it. If he doesn't go that route, he'll pocket 2k from you (seeing as he doesn't mind riding a slightly non-mint condition GXSR 1000 as it is)

From my experience, the person from the CRC I've dealt with stated they would not contact either insurance company. I was with my brother when he reported being sideswiped by a van. Person at fault paid all damages out of pocket. Neither party's insurance found out. YMMV.

Didnt' read the entire post...but you could pay up...buy him new plastics...and take back the damaged ones...you'll be able to sell the damaged ones to recoup the cost

He has no claim to any of the damaged parts.

My car cost me $32k, not $8k.
My car weighs 3,000 lbs, not 400.
My car doesn't have sliders.
My car is not a motorcycle.

Do you have any more useful comments?

Let's discuss how much it would cost to fix a Boeing 747 that landed on its wings.

You are right, it is of the right side. Remember that I tipped over the his bike unto its left side by pushing it from the right.

My point being it can be shocking how much some dummy knocking over a bike can cost to fix. One small scratch in a plastic fairing = total replacement.

You seem to be in disbelief that ot could be this expensive.

IMO you are getting off easy for 2k. If it were my bike I would have called my insurance company and started a claim within 5 minutes. Why haggle with someone like you when I can make one phone call and have everything replaced with brand new OEM parts at retarded prices? And not to mention burning you higher insurance rates for six years.

Because the owner of the bike is a nice person willing to go through a bit of risk to help another person not get raped by an insurance hike due to his claim.

Same thing happened to my Bike and it was $4,700 damage (Its an 01 and I paid $4,000 for it).

Nice enough that he thinks he's now trying to rip him off?

In response to the rust on the left handle:

It does look suspicious to me as well. The only thing that might seem reasonable is that it was raining on that evening.
I'm not sure how fast it would rust, but it doesn't seem unreasonable.

What really alarms me is that I wasn't aware of all this damage at the time of the incident (it was rainy and dark), and it took the guy 4 days to report it to the collision center.
Would you wait for 4 days?

You are right, it is of the right side. Remember that I tipped over the his bike unto its left side by pushing it from the right.
so you damaged both sides of his bike, 2 grand for probably most of the factory body with all the other parts seems cheap very fair.

also, i cant really tell but i think he had aftermarket levers on there, if they are Pazzo they cost about $250...but the invoice shows a OEM replacement at $69.06, i think hes going to be mad when he notices that because they look like pazzo.

you also damaged his muffler (i can see its scratched up a little, looks like the passenger peg saved it, but thats also bent and broken now), im assuming that isnt on the list because that would have pushed it at least another $500, and i wouldnt stand to have 1 replaced and not the other, it would look dumb having one newer one and it could actually mess up the tune having 1 that is broken in more than the other.

whatever you decide to do, do it quick so he can get back to riding... season is getting shorter and i cant see hi being happy about this.
glad you owned up to the accident, lots of hit and runs out there.

don't know the full story, as there's always 2 sides to a story and actual fact.

let it go through insurance.... the motorcyclist obviously wants money out of this... i'm sure the appraiser will pick up on the bull that the motorcyclist is trying to palm off...

He is insured with Nordic Insurance Company.
Has anyone ever heard of them? I can't even find a website for them...

It doesnt metter when it was reported, there is a wider window on exident report then 4 days. Things like barends, levers is very minor, the can be swapped for cheap, but plastic paint damage is costly, you might get away with 2k just painting them plus decals professionally, by the time its all done the season will be over so consider paying extra for rental bike during repairs.
