Which 2013 600cc SS should I buy?

Hey guys,

I have been browsing these forums for awhile, since I was 21. I recently landed a dream job, and finally have the money to invest in a motorcycle. I have my heart set on a 2013 600cc super sport. My commute to work is only 10km away. I was hoping to get some input, advice, or critism regarding which 2013 600cc super sport to buy, and any suggestions on where to buy from. So far I am torn between the Honda CBR 600RRA, and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R ABS. I don't feel that the R6 or GXR-R600 compare, but I could be wrong.

Thanks in advance for any help, it is a big purchase, so it is greatly appreciated!

Honda CBR600RRA
Bike Cost : 13,599 + HST
Insurance : 1911.20 = about 159 a month
PROSCONS
Saftey (Anti lock breaking)

Cheaper on insurance

Exhaust is under the seat (I prefer this look)
Only one colour scheme, the tri-colour, I don't hate it, but I don't like it.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R ABS
Bike Cost : 12,849 + HST
Insurance : 2422.89 = About 201 a month
PROSCONS
Saftey ( Anti lock breaking, traction control, power modes)

Assist and Slipper clutch

Colour scheme, both the green+black, and black look good.

Cheaper than the CBR by roughly 750.00$

Cruise control
More expensive on insurance by roughly 511.00 a year

Exhaust would have to be replaced with GP Mount exhaust for esthetic reasons which could cost 400-900$

It is my first bike, and I know it is dangerous to start on a 600 cc super sport. I have weighed the pros and cons and have decided to take the risk.
I started on a CBR 929. What I like is that they scare you straight the first time you ride them. If you survive that, you're good to go. All the kids starting out on CBR 125's upgrade to 600's and they think they can just twist it like they did on their 125 and die.

They say new riders start with an empty bucket of experience, and a full bucket of luck. I just hope you fill up your bucket of experience before your bucket of luck runs out.

Make sure you get an insurance quote before you purchase the bike. Even with a "dream job" insurance for new riders can sometimes be unobtainable.

finally have the money to invest in a motorcycle

Anyway 2013 Kawasaki 636 is the king of the Japanese 600s.

Although, if this is your fist bike and you don't have any prior motorcycle experience I would advise you to get a 250 for at least half a season before buying a brand new 600.

ZX6 hands down...

1) No bike is an investment
2) The Ninja slaps the **** out of the CBR in the looks department
3)Better performance and electronics

how old are you right now??

Looks are subjective, i personally can't stand the way any kawasaki looks.

As for which bike is better?

Go ride both and decide by yourself, other wise you'll get a million opinions on here.

I'm 25. My only problem with the ZX6 is the size of the damn muffler, and that it costs a little more in insurance. But I agree with the above posts, I think it will be worth the difference in $.

I would definitely go with 2013 kawi 636! I'm sure any doubts or regrets about the exhaust will go out the window once you've got it installed and ready to go:)

Get the honda.
The CBR is the most comfortable of the 600cc SS bikes. I found the gsxr to be next comfortable, then ninja, then the R6, which I love the look of.

I just grabbed a 09cbr600rr and I'm very happy with it. One thing I've noticed is all the aftermarket parts for it cose more and are slightly harder to find in stock in ontario, but can be ordered in no problem.

I didn't like the tricolour at first but now I do. Also, I'm not a fan of red vehicles but hondas new all red cbr looks great. (Still, I wouldn't buy all red)

Role model?

You shouldn't be restricting yourself, have you seen the liter bikes out there? The R1, the ZX-10, the CBR1000RR etc. These are some amazing rides. Also, don't forget they ZX-14 and the Hayabusa. Explore your options....don't decide based on other people's bias or what they call, opinion. Get what you like, what feels comfortable and fun and what you can afford.

I cannot stress strongly enough how important it is for your first bike to be the right bike! Also, if you’re only riding 10 kilometers one way you may do more harm to your brand new bike as it’ll barely be warmed up. Leave home earlier and take a 30 or 40 kilometer loop each way. ;) Hehehe
If under seat exhaust is a feature you like why not look at a left over 2012 Triumph Daytona 675. GP has one with some tasteful mods including the Arrow muffler at no extra charge.

agree with others on here to go sit on each bike, see if they are at all comfortable. you might eliminate a bike right off the bat by that alone. nothing wrong with starting on a 600ss + so long as your not an idiot and take it easy and most importantly respect the machine and never forget your riding a bull.

my vote is cbr

I understand that everyone has different body types and that may effect how a bike feels. But regardless I feel that safety is more important then comfort. The ZX6 has traction control, anti lock breaking (same with CBR), and power modes. With power modes, I can effectively make my bike the equivalent of a lower CC bike while I develop my riding awareness and skill. When I am ready, I can upgrade by a press of a button.
