brake check on the 401

The RV, driven by a diminished-reaction time senior citizen, proceeded to drive over him and grind him into jelly...

Haha, horrible but hilarious. Yes, I'm empathy-challenged. Picking a fight with a car on the highway will always result in the rider being the loser.

You can't be serious. That will get you rammed on the highway.

The proper thing is to get the flock out of there. Put as much distance between you and Stupid, as possible. Even if that stupid is yourself.

Definitely words to live (ride?) by. It's difficult to let that "I couldn't care less and there's nothing you can do about it" attitude go though. Then you remember the cops care even less unless an easy ticket is involved. In the process of Getting TFO, don't become that easy ticket.

Face, your sig says it all.

Thanks, you should try it some time.

I had a situation once where an old guy merged 2 lanes over and didn't hear my wimpy horn. If I would have slowed to 10 kph, I would have been sandwiched between him and the oncoming traffic. Instead, I accelerated, and got myself out of there. I hooked his front bumper inside the wheel well with my passenger peg & pulled it off (yeah he was that close and still coming over). I stayed upright, he lost his front bumper & grill. Your throttle is your friend, don't be afraid to use it.

If you want to be a sheep out there, that's your business. I actually find it safer to take control of the situation as best you can. Why do you think they teach lane positioning, if not to assert your right to be in that lane and discourage others to merge into it.

HTA172 isn't your friend. Use the throttle, accidentally go 40 over, then find yourself with the choice of out running cops or getting a gigantic fee plus impound plus suspension!

I'm not against what you are saying, I completely agree and do it all the time, just pointing something out <_<

who the **** "accidentally" goes 40 over

Wasn't me this time, not that I haven't done that before. Only when someone has really cut me off badly, then subtlely of course, don't want to cause an accident. They tend to keep they're distance if they think you're crazy, Lol.

you might just run into someone just as crazy as you and they wouldn't think twice of running your ars over

I'd like to know what it is that goes through stupid people's heads? Twice today I had some moron (one in a slow-maro and the other a friggin civic) right up my *** while doing 20 over. I'd pull away, they'd chase. Neither would pass and there was opportunity but instead they chose to sit on my ***. As someone said above my post, accelerate. Once I got enough distance between me and the morons they seemed to get the point. I would assume these people are dumb and think they have a hope or just want to push the guy on a crotch rocket just to see it go. Either way it's bloody annoying.:angry2:

As I said above "don't over do it and escalate the situation. Just a short tap to let him know that he can't bully his way down the highway unnoticed, then be on your way".

Sorry, I get the impression you think I was being a jerk there.

What I meant was, accelerating is exactly what someone should do when tempted to brake-check. Take off and create some distance - not stick around to play chicken with the clown behind you. Your throttle is your friend :).

Brake checking a car with a motorcycle is akin to bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Anyone who thinks its a good idea to "brake check" or piss off someone sitting in the safety of a car is beyond help.
But not to worry, Darwin explained the solution quite well.

lol! they were using you as "radar" perhaps? This is a dally occurrence on the 401.. I would if possible changed lanes and left them behind in the traffic.. see the note earlier about accelerate.. and pick your gaps. I guess it does make a difference on a super/hyper-sport ;-) ;-)

You're proud of being a whistleblower, snitch, squealer, etc. etc.?

God damn lol What ethnicity are you? I'm going to assume cultural backgrounds influence one's morals, ethics and values greatly.

Yup... Got it bang on more like family background. Doing the right thing and not backing down was drilled into me since I was a kid.... But honestly I only report when ppl are clearly an imminent threat to themselves and others.. If the wanna commit suicide we have the CN tower for that

I'm not sure why my "tiny mind" would think you were being a jerk. Wait, let me think about it for a while!

And for those of you who will simply smile, wave and think happy thoughts when someone deliberately cuts off a motorcycle and puts your life at risk, well you're a better man/woman than me. I'm glad you have found your inner peace.

No one is talking about playing chicken, just a subtle reminder that there are others out there who can be seriously impacted. That their actions are not with impunity. And if you decide to give that little reminder without an exit strategy, then you are just as much a Darwin candidate as that driver. I think of my bike more like a sharp swift scalpel, and that car as a heavy sledge hammer. If things go south and that guy really is a death cult member, it doesn't much to loose that sledge hammer in traffic.

You call the cops on fellow riders and you call that not backing down and are proud of it? You're not backing down from what? I guess it's the same thing as calling daddy in when you can't handle things.

So you are saying I shouldn't call "daddy" and taking him on @200kmph literally I tried catching up before we reached traffic again and not even in a lane on the bloody marker between cars.. Have you any sense of the danger posed by such idiots, not to mention the crack down it would bring on us if an innocent person got killed??

IF ANY ONE EVER CATCHES ME DO THAT **** PLEASE SAVE ME FROM MYSELF AND CALL THE COPS. I would rather be alive with out a license than 6feet under.

If you are suicidal that's your right. Trying to take others with is NOT.

Hi:

I think it bears pointing out that the individual brake checking isn't actually present for this thread. We all know better.

In the Canada Safety Council rider training courses one of the early lessons is "Plan B". Where will you go if your first choice doesn't work out?

The rider in question chose brake checking a car on the 401 as Plan A.

I'm not sure Plan B is possible. Adjusted for inflation from the 70s, 6 million dollars would be a lot of money for the technology..

If you were in the fast lane doing 20 over than I can see why they would be riding your ***, Did you try moving over and letting them pass? That would be the simple and most effective solution.

I would do the same thing.

5th Gen Canadian here.

Here's another vote for the "GTFO the way" crowd. Brake checking & vigilante moves can and probably will backfire (for me anyway, I have the worst luck). You don't know what's on a person's mind when they're driving aggressively... maybe its an emergency, maybe dude just got fired and is stressed out, or maybe he's just a total dick. Either way, I won't take it personally cuz I know his issues are not about ME.

I'll happily GTFO the way, or twist my wrist to stay away from any kind of drama. I'd rather live to ride another day.

Don't let road rage (or any rage for that matter) get the best of you - stay in control. Got that "****** off"/adrenalin feeling? Scotch helps (once your home, that is) :)
