Why do people put so many decals on their bike?

I never quite understood this. If they're receiving a discount or parts for free in exchange for advertising via decals I guess I can understand that.

If that however is not the case then why why why? It turns a beautiful piece of engineering in to a kids scrap book.

It's kinda like the rice rockets...you know those econobox cars that pretend to be a sports car plastered with stickers all over...it gives them 50 more horsepower because of that, guys that plaster their bikes are wannabe racers or the stickers cover the damaged areas...it's understandable on the pure race bikes but not on a street bike!

Who knows...

My bike contains ZERO stickers :)

The only stickers or decals that I put on mine is on the tail on top, behind the seat in the middle & 1 on the front fender after I painted it, they are all the Ducati Logo decals...all the others are factory!

I have stickers on my first bike. For products I purchased and places I have been, not only did I get the HP boost, but there stickers so they can come off if things change.

Got over the sticker look at 17 lol! I even took some stock decals off my 675

I used to have a small decal that read "No fat chicks". It stopped any "Tantor" style passengers from entertaining the notion of asking for a ride and damaging my rear shock.

My bike only has the factory warning stickers:

This made me laugh. I used to always poke fun at the cars (usually Hondas) with so many decals and made the same joke you did. Instead of powered by Honda it was powered by decals.

I guess some people mentioned one decal here or there is ok.

What I really don't understand are people selling their bike with 40 decals on them. Who wants to buy a bike only to spend hours removing them. Ain't nobody got time for that.

If you have to ask, you just won't understand.

However, I will state the following.

Everyone that does have stickers knows they add tremendous horse power. More stickers = more HP!!!!

Stickers are piled up on the tool box and seem to make themselves accessable because you left the duct tape somehwere else. Typically found by the closest plumbing repair.

That fairing rash or damage isn't going to fix itself and new plastics on ebay are expensive. It's always a good idea to let everyone know the energy drink you consume, the oil you used three seasons ago, the type of gear you bought for your significant other and took with them.

It's nice to know this stuff because your not my friend on Facebook and can't see what you like. Stickers rule!!!

Lastly, they are just cool. Again, if you have to ask, you will never understand.

completely agree with the OP, unless your in a race class and receive a discount on parts, or have sponsorship requirements like CSBK, show me fast you can actually ride during a lap on the track. I prefer not to attract attention to be honest.

I have stickers on the race bike for the guy that Painted my bike really cheap = CarbonCat and the shop that has helped me the most with parts, advice and most important knowledge = Competition Cycle

None of them are sponsoring me but they deserve the mention

On my street bike I have stickers for every performance part I have on the bike, just a matter of taste

To each its own

I only have this sticker, It lets me park in Condo's without fear of thieves.

Stickers or not, it's all personal preference.

Honda civics that are all rusty with racing branded stickers pasted all over them look super cool though... NOT (:

Op just worry about your own bike. People will always do things that don't make sense. We're all different.

Exactly ^^^ ... the posts like "Why others do this or that?" ... why should I care .... their bike, their life to enjoy. Don't waste your energy to think about it, use it to have your own fun ...
