questions about RADAR detectrors and what do the police use?

Looking at potentially purchasing a radar dectector. I remember back in time that the Valentine V1 was the best. What unit is the best now? A few years ago people were talking about the Bell Sti because of it's stealth ability.

Also what do the police in ontario use these days? Still K and KA band Radar, or something else? Also laser? What about purchasing Laser jammers - where would one get those from?

+1 on bell sti...but afaik opp uses mainly lidar now and the belltronics is good bc spectre has a harder time picking it up. Laser jammers...you'll have to grab those from the states and do a stealth install. They will tear into your car if they think you have it and they can't find it...have you thought about veil? It will give you some extra couple hundred feet before they can get a read on your speed, it's passive and legal.

You're better off removing chrome, making your target as small as possible...and don't forget about the plane in the sky. Is this for your car or your bike??

On all the rural roads, you're likely to encounter radar. LIDAR requires that the officer operates a directional "gun" and camps out along the highway (unless strides have been made to no longer require this, and I haven't kept up). No that I'd know or anything, but I've uh... heard that the Bel STI is quite effective for rural Ontario and is undetectable by police RDD.

The later versions are better.

The problem is that you may not detect a cruiser early enough, or the cruiser may not be running radar when you blitz past at a supra-legal speed.

I've looked into them and made threads about it in the past. In my opinion, it's not worth it. It'd probably be easier just to not speed but be ready to run if you're ever going 50+ the speed limit.

If anyone is interested i have a Bel STI645plus. Has a "error" code on the screen.
Yours for free .

hi, i'd be interested. is yours the un-detectable version?

pm'd you.

Great advice for all new riders right there ...............not.

How many times have u run?

I never said I did =P But a quick Google search will lead to some pretty interesting reads and some statistics from the states.

It's been debated to hell in other threads and there are obviously two sides:

A. Take it up the *** for going 50km/h+
B. Run and hope you won't take it further up the ***.

I'd rather side with B. I'm not disagreeing with side A. And I'm sure we all disagree with the retarded law behind this.

ur best bet is STiR Magnum and a set of Jammers
most cops run Laser
some do Ka band they can be on the move and still get you
you may also want to look at instant on K band
that one is tricky they call it pop
there is no defense to that one cus its a fast on and off K band
and if the cop is good at it ur radar wont even get to warn you

there is one more tool call Escort live you can download the app for free to try it
combined with a radar it gets better

most cops run Laser

On the 4 series highways, maybe. In the countryside, I think not. Again, unless I am misinformed, laser does not work when a police vehicle is on the move.

Those of us who have had experience with radar detectors see a lot of Ka.

Pain in the ***. At least you know if it's been done, but it's too late other than to nail the throttle or pull over.

Most radars I saw on country roads were just parked cruisers, so must have been radar. Same with night time popo while heading east towards Montreal on 401. They just camp in their cruiser.

Come to think of it I never saw LIDAR outside the GTA. LIDAR is usually set up on a tripod and it's a multiple man operation.

I liked Beltronics STi driver. Saved enough times. Mostly saw Ka and K bands.

rly easy
this is why they call this unit custom install
and it comes with a small display and control unit
antenna is big but can easily be hidden in the front nose fairing

How do you have it set up on the bike to keep it hidden?
