Winterizing AFTER winter comes

My bike is safely put away for the year, but I'm afraid road salt from the road might melt, then find the path of least resistance, then travel up hill to where I store my bike, then attack when I'm not looking. Any ideas how I can prevent this?

Fully automatic anti salt turrets come to mind, but they are a pain to get up here. you can have them shipped to CBI USA and pick them up in niagara though.

I think I've read about this. If I remember correctly, the solution is to put a perimeter of slugs all around your bike.

Everyone is overlooking the simplest of all solutions to the crawling salt---just put it up on the stands, both front and rear! It will take months for the street salt to climb up the tubes, even though it gets through the driveway up the hill and in the garage relatively fast.
 
Changed my oil tonite. Had my wife direct the leaf blower at the tubine induced oil pump while I warmed up the bike.
hmmmmm there is a blow job joke there but I think I'll just have another drink instead.
 
Warm up the bike. Change the oil. Cover it.
When the temperature goes back above 8C in a few days, take off the cover and go for a ride. :D
 
I'm not going to winterize yet...I think there will be one more nice day :D....I just know I'm going to freeze my *** off when I have to wash it :(
 
Changing the oil is overkill. It's only in there a few months it's not gonna hurt anything, just leave it and do it in the spring. All i do is fill the tank with gas 3/4's, then pour some stablizer in and ride it for 10 minutes to mix it in, then come back, park it, and that's it. It'll start up fine in spring. That all said, it's still too soon. No snow out there yet. There will be more riding days right up to xmas. It's chilly this week but there will be some days here and there that aren't that bad.

quick question: what if you don't leave the bike on stands....for the next six months?

Will the tires be fine? or will there be flat spots and new tires are needed?

Pump up the tires 1-2psi extra, put some cardboard or wood under the tires and you should be ok.

Better to put your bike on stands.

Last season, I didn't put my bike on stands. And, at the beginning of this season, my mechanic (honest guy, btw) told me I had flat spots. Had to get both tires changed. Lesson learned. I don't know how well other methods work (rolling tires, using cardboard, or wood), but I'm not taking a chance. It's stands (front and back) for me.

Tires are appx $250. You can find the canadian tire stands probably for $100
 
I've never filled the tires above stock or put the bike on stands for the winter. No flat spots in 3 years. Then again, I usually take it out quite a bit over the winter.

I've also only had to top up the air in the tires I think maybe 2 or 3 times since I got the bike.

yeah, depends on the tire, there are much pricier tires than the pilot road 3s. plus getting it put on the rims if you don't have the tools. also if he's lazy, charge to remove the wheels. it adds up
