Ninja 650 or Ninja ZX-6R

Hey all,

I have just finished my first year on a bike. I currently have a Ninja 250 and already thinking about what I'm going to upgrade too next year. I put on about 5000km on the 250 this year so I am obviously still considered a new rider. I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is on the Ninja 650 and ZX-6R and what I should get. I know the 650 has less power overall but I like the idea of the more upright sitting position. I just think the ZX-6R would be uncomfortable on longer rides. But I also like the idea of the extra power and acceleration that the ZX-6R would have.

I obviously got bored of the 250 near the end of the season. Do you think that I would get bored with the 650? Anyways just looking for everyone's opinion. I am so confused at this point...

Another question I have is that I'm with State Farm for insurance. I have heard they base the insurance rate on the cc's of the bike. So would the 650 actually cost more to insure that the 600? Seems a bit odd...
It depends, what year ZX6R?

05 0r 06 great
07 or 08 stay away ( i had one)
09 excellent

or go for other brands, don't just think Kawi

I own a 06 650R and love it. Lots of peep, a bit lacking on top end, but that can keep you out of trouble. I'm on the fence about my next upgrade. I'm thinking of maybe buying a new 2012 650R since even used bikes like the FZ6 are close on 6g.

My biggest complaint about the zx6 is the fuel range.. 220-230km and im out.,

My 650r is horrible on gas, I get maybe 150-160km before my reserve light goes on. Something's gotta be wrong, no? Also I feel like I could use some more oomph after a season on my 650r; I don't feel that rush I used to when I first got it. If I were in a position to choose between a ZX-6R and a 650r I would have no hesitation taking the former.

I've gotten over 200KMs on my 650R, but it really depends on how you ride it.

Something horribly wrong...I was getting 280-300km regularly on my old 2007.

Yea, but did you ride it like a man-mad? Killing it trying to keep up with your buds on SS bikes, will kill fuel efficiency. So maybe that's where some don't get great fuel economy. The heck with fuel economy, max throttle on every take-off. LOL

90% hwy commuting.
10% hooligan

While I was breaking in the 650R (and learning that I *don't* need to be revving it high constantly unlike the 250R at times, lol) I was getting around 180-220km initially. After break-in, I would average anywhere from 250-290km depending on how I was riding -- typically more around the 250km range though.

I say go for the zx6r, I was in your position a few years back, had a ninja 250, wasn't sure about upgrading to a 650R or a SS, I went with the SS instead and got a R6, I love the power and control, never rode a 650 before but I don't regret getting the R6 one bit.

Thing that concerns me about SS, is your back and wrists after long trips.

Very true, I rode to Grand Bend and Goderich a few time, about 250km one way, and the SS isn't the most comfortable. Power vs. Comfort I guess, take your pick :)

Yea. Personally I love the SS look, but practically speaking bikes like the FZ6, 650R, Fz1... make more sense in my eyes. In a perfect world though I'd go with a SS over everything else.

how did this thread become all about Rodney?

In a world without HTA 172 I'd go with a SS over everything else.

FTFY

Yeah, people can say whatever but an SS on the street shames the bike since you'll never use all that power save for a few spots in the boonies (if you're lucky).

Trading my ss next season, this being one of the reasons.
