If you start comparing phones based on who's copied what or what looks like what, the discussion will quickly stop being objective and turn into a troll fest. lol.
So approach this with a very practical mindset.
At the moment, if you like to play games and want the widest variety of apps, iPhone is you guy. Android does get apps, and eventually the top apps you see with iPhone, but it takes longer to get them. But Android is picking up steam as developers see that Android is popular and gaining market shares.
I can't comment on safety/security (and I've never heard that concern for Android), but Apps generally run better on the iPhone. Reason? Like a PC and a Mac. iPhone hardware is standard, all apps are optimized when they come out. Android can vary in its hardware and software, and not all apps are optimized for each combination.
One reason to like Android, is that it's easier to use custom App Markets and pirate your Apps (should you choose to go down that path). Whereas the iPhone is locked down, and you will have to jailbreak your phone.
