i lold at "anything past day 5 is just throwing darts"

While that is true I'm still holding out for next Wednesday after the forecast calls for rain a couple nights before
:violent2:

I'll wait for a couple of rains just to be sure...missed this past beautiful weekend thanks to some painting :(

Not to mention think about it for a minute. I wait until we have had at least 2 - 3 days of good solid rain. You ride your bike behind a car at say 60 km/h that car kicks up fine particles of road salt and sand. You may as well take your bike to a shop and ask them to use the sand blaster on your paint job...lol

The traction as has been stated. Plus yes it may be 10 degrees during the day, and you don't make it home quickly, we get a sudden temp drop and now your riding in 1 degrees and come upon a wet spot where the snow, (that we are getting RIGHT now), has melted during the day. Next thing you know your on your *** and the bike, and likely you have a nice rash to show for it.

I've never had issues riding throughout the winter and I know others that have done it as well. However, it will rapidly rust the your metal parts and as others have said screw with your paint; my exhaust headers look like they have cancer.

Also, check if the temp goes sub zero when you're returning. I had an oopsies last year coming back home onto my drive way due to ice =(

I never really understand how ppl can be so stupid.
Yeah, we all want to get out on the roads yesterday.
I guess we need stupid to keep the wheel turning for servicing crashes and rashes.

Well if I lived right downtown and could leave home at say 10 am and return home by 5 pm and my "commute" was no more than 20 minutes I "might" buy a beater bike and ride all winter, I don't discourage them from doing it.

But my commute is 50 - 60 minutes with no traffic. I leave home by 5 am and generally get home 5:30 - 7 pm. So I have to wait a bit longer than some. Still not much tire grip at 5 am until late May..lol

The odds for a weather forecast being correct.
Today - 100%
Tomorrow - 85%
The Day After Tomorrow - 70%
The Day After That - 50/50
Anything after that - They're guessing.

Doesn't look like spring to me

Funny, that's what my non-riding friends say about those who ride bikes in general. It's all about risk/reward, not about being stupid.

+ yep it`s all about what your comfy with, I like to have my bikes ready as soon as possible. I ride every year into December, sure some days here and there are bad and I can`t take the bike, but I never put them away till Old Man Winter is definitely staying and blowing hard.

This winter was awesome, I rode to work in every month-not everyday just a few days here and there which was awesome. I only took the battery out on both just mid Feb or something, I even did my Oil and fluid change early Feb when we had the 5+ days. My commute is Mon-Fri from UofT campus in Scarborough to Downtown Yonge and College. Both bikes are cruisers, a 1300cc and a 1200cc, and I`m aware of the traction and the extra care you need to take. I only ride if the morning is above 2c and the night was not too cold. Sure there may be some white brine or salt here and there but you need to take care as I mentioned, my bikes are not garage queens, I do wash them if I feel there is some white powder stuck to the bottom, a quick hose does the trick.

It all depends on how comfy you are and how pristine you want your ride to look, cars here go through so much muck and worse I`m confident my bikes will be ok. I love to ride and the if I can get out there the sooner the better. To each their own, my bike where made to ride not sit 4-6 months in the garage, and can handle the extra care needed with the cold tires and all.

Come this week-end if the forecast still holds as I mentioned my babes will be ready to rock! the 2016 season.

All the best for the new season folks.

Hey, as long as you don't ever try and sell me the bike, I have no problems with you running it into the ground.

Gonna be 2 on sunday...should be warm enough to give the bike a bath and wash the ACF 50 off visible areas. Then it's ready for Wednesday!

Don't think you gotta worry on that, both are gonna stay in my stable, one is almost 18 years old, and the other is 12. I love them both and there is enough power to keep me happy...it's a regular ménage à trois with us.... :D:D:D
